Parrot Cay is a real life Fantasy Island. It is everything that the sophisticated traveler would expect from a world class, one of a kind, ultimate escape. Parrot Cay is a 1,000 acre private island, totally insulated from stress and struggle. It is located approx 5 miles from the Turks/Caicos island of Providenciales (Provo for short) but is surprisingly easy to get to.
Provo is an easy 90 minute plane ride from Miami. After clearing immigration, which can take up to 30 minutes, and customs (a non-event), guests of Parrot Cay are greeted just outside the arrival doors. Just the sight of the smiling greeter holding the Parrot Cay sign makes arriving guests immediately feel at ease. A porter will take care of the luggage until it appears in your accommodations at Parrot Cay. Guests are transferred to the Parrot Cay dock which is an easy 20 minute ride from the airport.
The Parrot Cay welcome center dock is located on the eastern tip of Provo and is a coming attraction of what’s in store. Guests are offered cold drinks and cool wash clothes. The welcome center building is actually a replica of one of the villas on Parrot Cay. The comfortable boat ride to the private island takes approx. 30 minutes. The boat ride gives the arriving guests a preview of the fabulous beach and the bluest water they will ever imagine. The water is actually 100’s of different shades of blue and green. The color is so intense that at times it will actually give the clouds a greenish caste.
Guests are met at the Parrot Cay arrival dock by a bevy of staff members that often times even includes the resorts’ General Manager. We are soon whisked away in golf carts directly to our villa. The check-in procedure is done privately at the guest’s accommodation. While we are signing our check-in form we are being given some information about our villa and the resort in general.
There are several different types of accommodations to choose from. The basic resort rooms are located in clusters around the main building which overlooks the resort from the islands highest point. The main building is where guests find the Concierge, the Library, internet center, Terrace Restaurant, and the Terrace Bar. The rooms are what designers might call minimalist. The lines are clean and uncomplicated with an abundance of light wood and natural materials. Although they are Zen-like in character they are not missing any of the 21st century conveniences – all having ceiling fan, air conditioning, Plasma TV’s with DVD players, and I-Pod docking stations. From the resort rooms it is a short walk down to the pool, fitness club, tennis courts, and the beach.
The Beach Villas and Beach Houses are located a short distance from the main building on the beach. The Beach Houses are either one or two bedrooms. Each has 2 baths and of course all of the amenities that the resort rooms have. They have the added advantage of having a living/dining room, private screened in terrace, and a very private plunge pool. The beach and aforementioned ridiculously beautiful sea are just steps away. They maintain their privacy by being separated from the beach by a natural dune area.
The Beach Villas have all of the amenities of the beach houses, but are 3 bedrooms, three baths, and each has a full size private pool. There is also a one-bedroom Beach Villa that has a full size private pool. These the one bedroom beach accommodations are the perfect honeymoon escape. I absolutely have never seen a better place to spend a once-in-a-lifetime experience like a honeymoon.
Parrot Cay Estate
The Estate villas are located further down the beach on the other side of Rocky Point. They are even more private, and because of their distance (approximately a 1/2 mile) from the main resort areas, they include a golf cart, and the services of a Butler. Meals may be taken at either of the resort’s restaurants, or may be served in the villa by the Butler. The homes are designed for the most discerning traveler who seeks the villa experience with hotel services attached. The Estate is divided into three areas
Rocky Point has 3 separate 3-bedroom villas. Each villa is located directly on a beautiful private beach, and each has a beautiful full size swimming pool.
Further down the beach is The Sanctuary which is comprised of 2 separate, very Zen-like houses owned by world famous designer Donna Karan. The two villas are identical 4-bedroom houses each with a private full size pool. They are separated by a large main pavilion that serves as a perfect place to meditate or enjoy the company of guests. The villas can be rented as two separate villas or as an 8 bedroom estate – which seems the best way to go.
The final possibility is “The Residence”. These three separate houses can be rented separately or as a complete compound. The main house of The Residence is a 5 bedroom villa. There are two bedrooms on the ground floor, and a master bedroom on the 2nd floor that defies description. There are two separate additional pavilion bedrooms. There are two 3 bedroom “guest” houses, each with a full size private swimming pool. The 3 villas of The Residence can be rented individually or as an 8 or 11 bedroom compound.
The rooms and villas, although beautiful, are not the only attraction at Parrot Cay. We can start with the beach….it is as beautiful as you can imagine. The quality of the sand is soft and fluffy and snow white. The water is indescribable…the clearest, the bluest, the most inviting. There are chaise lounges and market umbrellas all along the beach. Each pair of chaises has a flag that clients can stick in the sand so that the beach attendants know when you need service. Full service is available at the beach including food and cocktails.
If the beach is not your thing, the pool is a wonderful alternative. The large infinity pool is designed with a gradual entry so it actually seems like the beach. The pool also looks out over the beach and the sea so the view is wonderful. The villas also have private pools to give clients even more choices.
There are two restaurants to choose from. The Terrace restaurant is located in the in the main building with great views of the entire property. The food is really an eclectic mix, but world predominantly Mediterranean. The food is pricey, but unbelievably delicious. The Terrace is open for dinner, and breakfast. The breakfast is included for all guests and consists of just about anything you want. There are cereals, all types of egg dishes, waffles, pancakes, you name and they have it.
Adjacent to the pool is the Lotus Restaurant. As its name implies, the food is Pan Asian. The Lotus is open for lunch and dinner. Once again, the food is unbelievable! For guests that want the ultimate in Spa Cuisine, the Parrot Cay offers an entire menu called Shambhala. With COMO Shambhala cuisine, guests can benefit from a variety of nutritious and tasteful menu choices and freshly extracted spa juices. The focus is on nutrition and organic produce.
The Shambhala Spa is truly world-class, offering every treatment imaginable. If facials or massages are not your thing The Spa is a wonderful place to just go to relax and take a steam or sauna.
Parrot Cay is the perfect place for rest and relaxation!
